Waffles To you all, This being big old post numero 15. Wow what a nice even sounding number (but really a sneaky odd bastard in disguise... im on to you 15, im on to you...)
Yes well anyways its finally the weekend and boy do i need it, this week seemed to go on forever, and ever, etc etc. Probably much of that has to do with the crap load of tests that i had to write this week, so ive been really looking forward to this sancuary called friday! Saddening though that next week ive got even more exams to do but hey thats not the issue at the moment, as of now the issue is relaxation!
Apoligies for last nights post, looking back on it, there wasnt much there that i really said and a good chunk of it was me repeating myself. Kinda sucks though considering that i really did have some good ideas as to what to write, witty comments and all but i said ah well im sure that ill remeber it tomorrow. But Loe and behold did i? neope, not in the slightest. So hey, there you have it, the fruits of my labour is yesterdays post. hmmm yes anywho
Ive also noticed a few (read one) complaints about what i said in regards to punk muzac yesterday so i feel that some clarification is in order as to how i feel on this subject.
The intent of that post wasnt to just single out punk music as being a load of smelly crap one finds on the side of a street (in saaayyy france for instance). What i really meant, and are trying to get across now is what pisses me off is a lack of originality and inventiveness in music. Punk became the fodder of this discussion yesterday more so because the state of rock music was on my mind at that particular moment. This not to say that all of punk is junk (hehe that rhymed) because the groups that are inventive, new and have an original sound i like, its just those groups taht have popped up in the last little while to ride along with this current Punk music fad that anger me. Every single one has the same god damn sound, hey look at me i can shout in to a mike and strum occasionally on a guitar, WHOOOO!!! Its these copy cat groups that have no originality at all that get my goat. Now this anger of a lack of original sound/ cookie cutter music made only for money stretches over to any and all music types, and for that matter era's. Anyone who knows me will tell you that im not the worlds biggest rap fan (probably pretty darn far from the fact) but if an artist has a new and unique sound then ill give him his cudos because the guy or girl is trying something new and isnt just doing what will generate the cash. But you look at how many Emenem clones came out when he really got popular and thats just sad. I know that its hard to make it in the music industry as it is, but i would think that someone would rather have their own sound than be known for one or two mediocre songs that are just known because they sound just like someone else. Now pop.. sigh... ill get to that later.
As i said this hatred of no real evident talent streches over to other eras of music as well. You have probably seen that often i commend and exhonorate older music from say the 80's or 70's or such but these times werent without their crap music. In fact i would have to say that the 80's were probably even worse for sound alike groups than today. Just sit down and watch one episode of Power Hour on Much More Music and this will be veerryy evident. For every truly genious group like Def Leppard, Van Halen, Motley Crue etc. you had hundreds of Ratt's, White Snake, Dokken, etc who were known for one or two good songs, but mostly for sounding as close as possible to the really heavy hitters of the era. This has a tendency of occuring quite a bit in music and thats really saddening for me, Once a group comes out with some new and inventive sound that sells youll find copy groups sprout up like a fast moving form of mushrooms. Of course you can go as far back as the Beatles to see this, the british invasion was full of Beatles and Rolling Stones sound alikes, so its not just the examples of this in punk that anger me, its just that punk music is the most recent example of this system that is the record industry so thats why i mentioned.
Now Pop Music on the other Hand, that my friends is probably THE biggest reason in my mind why the record industry is faltering. Here you have a system soley designed around producing music that sounds just like everything else that has come out in pop music for the last few years. The only innovations really? to add an "infusion" of street "cred" by throwing in the odd rap and/or hip hop artist in to some random pop artists music. All that this achieves is the lowering of hip hop to a system that is soley based around turning the biggest profit; yes i know thats what a buisness is supposed to do, but last time i checked groups that are innovative and fresh seem to sell pretty damn good if given a chance. Although Granted music like Nelly's Air Force One's should not even be allowed to exist, dear god its one big ad! who the hell would be able to sit through that and just think that its a good song, if ever you want a good example if someone completly selling out, there you go.
The one thing that i really want to do right now is go up to every single one of those american/canadian idol losers who have released their cd's and kick them nice and hard in the groin (my preferred system of punishment as im sure youve noticed). This music is total and utter Crap with a capital Shit! The show was just one big ad for Coke and the other sponsers and now you have these idiots coming out with the same poppy ballad drivel crap that any moronic loser with 1/4 of a musical education and a half decent (being reaaallllyyy generious here) singing voice could throw out. On a side note i have had the occasional jab at pop music already (see part one of the story). But yes anyways back to american idol bashing. Stupid idiots and their factory made sound, bah! a pox on them. Oh what the hell is up with pop singers and the appearant need to flail their pointed finger around when their sustaining notes? does this magical finger movement somehow grant them the powers of vocal chords or something? not really a substantial gripe but it pisses me off all the same. Stupid people.
Im really hopeing that the new American idol flops like a Soufflé taken out of the oven too early (if you dont know what im talking about, LOOK IT UP;.... lazy bastards). Although if it does flop it will probably only result in a momentary lack of pre-produced crap in music but hey any sort of break is a good one.
I must say though that there is a small amount of pop music that i do like, this of course being music that is rather original and different. Mostly the likes of Sting, Meatload and such (although Stings not really all that much of pop music, considering the police and all {now that was a really great band, the fusion of reggae and rock, how does one go wrong?}), and yes i must admit that i do like that new song by dido (white flag or something) Its a catchy tune alright? so sue me, but the point is, that its all rather original so its gets the big old Yurko stamp of approval.
Wow i sure talked for a while about nothing much but hey, you come here to see my words so thats what you get!
As promised, here is now a small addition to the story! So enjoy, or dont its all up to you; because we live in a free market system, not the opppresion of communism... DAMN YOU ZIG ZIGLAR with your american propaganda, runined my mind, damn him....

At this point in time, the afformentioned Dragon, he needs a name soooo lets call him Waldorf the Slightly Daft; yes well anyways Waldorf was happily sitting in his rather sisable cave on which he had just recently paid off the morgage. Comfortly snuggled up in his large pile of assorted gold, that being the preffered cushoning of the suave dragon, he was contamplating what should be done about that little town down yonder moutain. It was around this current point that he heard the slow sound of song wafting up to his ear. It was a rather intriguing melody thought the rather old Waldorf, one that he had not heard for a very long time. The actual way in which the song went is not known but all that matters is that the dragon liked what he heard.
So rather slowly he got up off the sizable pile of dubloons on which he was sitting and made his way to the door of the cave. What his little, for a dragon anyway, eyes saw coming up the path to his cave was rather startling for the old Dragon. Sure he'd seen many bards, minstrels and other travelling purveyors of crappy music come up his path (no skinny little farts who cant sing out of their ass yet though *cough clay aiken *cough) but never had he seen one with such an odd instrument in tow.
Now would be a good time to mention that johnny did indeed play a most intersting instrument, that which was the zoozaphone. The zoozaphone is, depending on who you ask, either a really large and gangly looking mixture of pipes, flapping valves, and two small ducks or a piece of wax paper shoved into a straw. Regardless, it is known for being an extremly difficult instrument on which to play and especially master (the wax paper/straw form being obviously much harder, but then again its not that easy to train two ducks to quack in time while simultaneously playing small drum sets). Our man Johnny however had not only learned to play the zoozaphone but was considered one of the best players of the zoozaphone to ever leave his branch of the Greater Entertainers, Associated plumbers and Military Generals University. The intersting thing about the zoozaphone is that some say that when its played exceptionally well it tends to sound like what many believe a dragon would if it tried to sing while being half drunk and missing a leg (right or left, your choice).
